Research Needs for Effective Transition in Lifelong Care of Congenital Genitourinary Conditions

On February 2, ICA staff attended the National Institute of Diabetes & Digestive & Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) workshop “Research Needs for Effective Transition in Lifelong Care of Congenital Genitourinary Conditions” on the NIH campus. The purpose of this meeting was to define research needs to help improve health and quality of care across the lifespan of adolescents/young adults with complex chronic conditions involving the genitourinary systems. Attendees were also given the objective of developing a recommendation for helping adolescents/young adults transition to independence and the adult health care delivery system. The one day meeting brought together patients, caregivers, social workers, behavioral, nursing and medical experts who provide care for adolescents and young adults with complex chronic conditions involving the genitourinary systems.
