NIH’s Dr. Collins Interview with Paul Basken of The Chronicle of Higher Education

Director of the National Institutes of Health, Dr. Francis S. Collins was recently interviewed by Paul Basken of The Chronicle of Higher Education. In the interview, Dr. Collins spoke of better days ahead for NIH and medical researchers, largely due to President Obama requesting Congress allocate $31.3-billion to NIH in the 2016 fiscal year – a $1 billion dollar increase from its current funding level. That fact, and given advances in genetics and electronic medical records, he also feels that the timing is now right for the “precision medicine initiative” proposed by the president.
