ICA Discusses IC at National Institutes of Health
Robert M. Moldwin, MD, FACS, ICA Board of Directors and ICA Medical Advisory Board, recently discussed IC with scientists and researchers at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Dr. Moldwin explained how doctors diagnose and treat patients, and he shared many of the challenges IC patients face.
Representatives from the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) and the Office of Pain Policy at National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) appreciated this information. They provided research and scientific updates and discussed programs that will help people with IC such as Multi-Disciplinary Approach to the Study of Chronic Pelvic Pain (MAPP) and the National Pain Policy.
The group discussed the importance of finding new ways to support IC patients. They also discussed ways that ICA could collaborate with NIDDK and NINDS to educate and support the IC patient community. With all of the diseases and conditions that NIH is working to cure, it’s good to know that IC is being discussed, researched, and remains a priority at NIH.
