ICA and the American Urogynecologic Society (AUGS) have created a joint research grant up to $10,000 funded equally by ICA and AUGS. ICA wishes to congratulate this year’s grant recipient, Judy M. Choi, MD of the University of California, Los Angeles. Her study, Chronic Stress Affects the Micturition Pathway via the Peripheral Corticotropin-Releasing Factor (CRF) Pathway, proposes to identify the connection between chronic stress and the development of IC/PBS. The study will provide a model of peripheral stress-modulated mechanisms that lead to bladder hypersensitivity and urinary frequency, which could improve the diagnosis and treatment of IC/PBS by better characterizing IC/PBS, thereby improving therapies for patients.
