CDC Releases Opioid Prescribing Guidelines to Primary Care Physicians

After much debate, the CDC released its final draft of guidelines to Primary Care Physicians on Tuesday, March 15. ICA has been a voice in the debate on these controversial guidelines since the first draft was released last fall. While ICA is pleased that the revised CDC guidelines encourage primary care physicians to take the individual needs of the patient into consideration, we’re disappointed that the changes to the voluntary guidelines weren’t more significant and we will continue to advocate for the chronic pain patient’s access to care. The full rationale behind the creation of these guidelines and the guidelines themselves can be found here: http://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/volumes/65/rr/rr6501e1er.htm
