Board of Directors


Interstitial Cystitis Association (ICA) Board of Directors include people with interstitial cystitis (IC), family members, physicians, and professionals. The ICA Board guides strategic planning and organizational direction. Board members offer support for and spur interest in programs and services, and provide fiduciary oversight of organizational activities. This group of volunteers dedicates their time, expertise, and enthusiasm to ensuring ICA mission fulfillment.

  Barbara Zarnikow, Co-Chair

An IC patient, public spokesperson and active advocate, Barb is an IC support group leader for the Chicago area. To help others with IC, she also has shared her story in the local and national media. An active advocate and Capitol Hill walker, at a birthday celebration for Jesse Jackson, Jr., Barb discussed the special needs of IC patients directly with the Senator. A recently retired special education teacher/learning specialist, Barb received her degree from Eastern Illinois University.
 

  Eric Zarnikow, MBA, Co-Chair

Eric Zarnkow is a financial executive who brings an appreciation for how the ICA helps families of IC patients. As the husband of an IC patient he became active in the association to help the ICA help other patients and family members. With more than 25 years experience in senior management positions, Eric, has an undergraduate degree from Iowa State University and a master's of business administration from Drake University.
 

  F. Neal Thompson, Treasurer

Long-time Board Member and IC patient, F. Neal Thompson, is an insurance industry executive and certified financial planner. Founder and President of Financial Services Consultants in Richmond, VA, Neal received his bachelor’s degree from Lynchburg College and a Master’s degree in economics from the University of Richmond. He offers extensive experience with nonprofit boards. Neal and his wife Sharon are dedicated ICA members and regular participants in ICA Capitol Hill walks.
 

  Claire Buchan

Claire is the friend of a person with an IC and an individual with very high integrity. As principal of CB Communications, she specializes in public affairs strategy, crisis communications, issues management, media training, executive positioning, legal public relations and media relations. She has been the head of public relations for two Fortune 500 companies and has served three Presidents, including working in the White House as Deputy White House Press Secretary.
 

  Phyllis E. Greenberger, MSW

Named as one of the twenty most influential women in medicine today by The Medical Herald, Phyllis Greenberger is the President and CEO of the Society for Women’s Health Research (SWHR). She has served as the first and only President and CEO of SWHR since its founding in 1990. As a thought leader in women’s health research, Phyllis brings a special understanding of the needs of women with chronic conditions like interstitial cystitis.
   

 Robert M. Moldwin, MD, FACS

Robert M. Moldwin, MD, is physician in charge of urologic infectious/inflammatory diseases at the Smith Institute of Urology and director of the Interstitial Cystitis Center at North Shore-LIJ Health System. He is associate professor at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York. Dr. Moldwin often serves as an IC advocate and expert consultant, lecturing to audiences of colleagues, patients, and the media.
 

  Irma Rodriguez

Irma Rodriguez, a patient and longtime supporter of the ICA. After a 25-year career in higher education, she has transitioned to a focus on furthering diversity in government and industry. Irma has also been a leader in professional, community, and national organizations dedicated to these issues and has been honored as a Kellogg Foundation Fellow and a Hispanic Leadership Fellow. A resident of Georgia, she is currently the manager of Diversity and Workplace Fairness with The Coca-Cola Company’s Corporate Global Office of Diversity and Workplace Fairness.
 

  Tony Tyler

Tony Tyler was born and raised in Oklahoma City. After earning a bachelor’s degree in history, Tony began his career at Tyler Media—a media company consisting of five radio stations, three TV stations, and an outdoor advertising company. The Tyler family has been in the media business for nearly 50 years. Tony works alongside his brother Ty and his father Ralph, who has IC. He is active in community service and married to his high school sweetheart, Shelley. They have four children and live in Norman, OK.
