1992 ICA Milestones

>>The ICA has a booth at the AUA and AUAA meetings in Washington, DC.

>>Articles on IC appear in US News and World Report and Self magazines. Debra Slade and Vicki Ratner, MD, co-author an article on IC which appears in the first edition of the Journal of Women's Health.

>>ICA Medical Advisory Board Member Kristene Whitmore, MD discusses IC and the ICA on Good Morning America.

>>The ICA in New York unifies with the ICA in San Diego to become one national ICA. The two organizations combine Board of Directors and Medical Advisory Boards. The ICA in San Diego contributes funds to the Pilot Research Program.

>>The Senate, again through the help of Senator Harry Reid of Nevada, earmarks $4,000,000 for IC research through the NIDDK. This is the largest earmark to date and is to be used to fund IC research in 1993. This allows a very successful political action campaign and Senate and House testimony by Mona Schlossberg.

>>NIDDK spends $2,000,000 on IC research proposals.

>>ICA spends over $70,000 on eight projects through its Pilot Research Program.

>>The 1993 Annual Fund campaign is initiated. The funds raised will be used to promote IC awareness and activities.

>>Debra Slade addresses the national meeting of the AUAA (urologic nurses and technicians) in Washington, DC.

>>The ICA in Canada becomes a separate organization from the ICA in the US, while maintaining close ties. Debra Slade addresses urologists at the Canadian Urological Association (CUA) in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
